How do I go about hiring items from Scenes & Stories?

The hire process is very straightforward. Have a look through the Catalogue and Scenes and add the items you are interested in to the wishlist. If you are searching for something specific pop a keyword in the search box at the top of the page, this will display all matching items available to hire. The wishlist has the option of sending it to us or you can drop us an email at jenny@scenesandstories.com. Once we receive your selection we’ll get right back to you with a quote for hire including delivery and collection. We will also give you a few options for extras such as our setup and styling option.If you are happy to confirm we will send you an invoice for a 50% deposit to secure the booking. The remaining is due 14 days prior to delivery and we will be in touch at that stage to discuss all the final details.

How does delivery work?

London and surrounding counties are our playground but we are quite happy to look at going anywhere! If you let us know where you need us we will do our best! If you choose to hire items without our setup service then a reliable third party will make delivery. They will arrive at the agreed time slot, unload the items and place them in a safe place of your choosing. They are happy to place the bulky items in their final spot, they cannot move things around several times so it is good to have a point of contact there who knows where everything is to go. Any chairs will be left stacked ready for you to setup and small items will be left boxed until you are ready to place them. All of our stock comes with the appropriate packaging, please keep all the original packaging and re-pack the items after use, ready for collection. The packaging forms integral part of our offering and items returned in missing or damaged packaging will incur a fee.

What is the advantage of the setup and styling service?

Setup and styling comes automatically with all of our Scenes. If you hire your own selection of items and you don’t have time to setup and style yourself and no one else around can do it for you, then it’s a great idea to book our setup and styling service. We will liaise with you ahead of time to discuss the position of everything. If possible and if needed we will arrange to meet with you at the venue to talk through the details. On the day we will arrive, unload, set everything up and make sure it all looks perfect before we leave.  We will be back the next day to pack everything up and take away.

Do you deliver and collect any day of the week?

Absolutely! When you send us your wishlist please include your preferred delivery and collection dates and let us know of any restrictions imposed by your venue. It is worth you checking with them early on as some venues will impose setup on the day of the event rather than the day before, might want us to collect the night of the event or on the contrary don’t want collection to happen until the following working day. Once we know your exact requirements we will then be able to include the correct delivery and collection cost in the quote we send you. Our hire period runs from the day before the event to the following working day. We always give you as precise a timeslot as possible for the delivery and collection. Someone must be there to receive the items and again at the time of collection to sign them off. This can be you, a friend or family member, someone from the venue or anyone you trust to receive delivery.

Is it possible to collect things from you rather than have them delivered?

Yes. We are happy for you to collect small props and items. This wouldn’t apply to large pieces of furniture however, these need to be handled by our trusted delivery partners. When you place your order just let us know you are interested in collecting the pieces. We will arrange a date and time with you and have everything packed and ready to go when you arrive.

You become responsible and liable for the items from the moment you collect them from us until the time you bring them back.

I am looking for a particular item or style and I can’t see it on your site. Can you help?

Treasure hunting and sourcing is our favourite, so yes, absolutely! Our bespoke styling and sourcing service starts with you giving us as much of a brief as possible and we will then go looking for what you need. Not all our stock is listed on the website instantly so you never know we might even have what you are looking for!

Can you help me make a selection?

With pleasure! We believe that presenting our stock as styled Scenes really helps with knowing what to get, what is useful, what will look pretty and how it will all come together on the day. If you need to talk it through and ask for more advice just get in touch we are always happy to help.

Why do you also offer a planning service?

Before starting Scenes & Stories I was a wedding and party planner for 10 years.   I enjoy putting that experience and little black book of suppliers to use for a few clients every year. What if the items get broken or bruised?

It happens! We won’t be upset but we do charge a replacement cost if the item is broken. If it’s a stain, a tear or something that can be fixed we will charge you for the cost of the repair or cleaning. Please don’t try fixing or cleaning things yourself as we will see it and we will still need to charge you for it. We use a group of very talented professionals, from carpenters, to seamstresses and master cleaners to look after and maintain our items. To make sure everything we deliver to you is in great condition and ready to rock it is important that any repairs or cleaning be done by our team.
